Knights of Columbus Council #297 in St. Albans is supporting the local food shelf at Northwest Family Foods.

The food shelf has experienced a steady increase of people seeking assistance, reaching 650 visits a month.

Toni Auriemma, food shelf coordinator, said, “We have seven open pallet spaces – meaning the whole area where the loading dock is located is empty of food on pallets.”

Grand Knight Valdemar Garibay, who is also a part of the Rotary Club of St. Albans, noted that when he visited the food shelf in mid-May to deliver check/cash donations and food, the shelves were emptier than he had observed in the past.

The Rotary Club helps at the food shelf twice a month to organize the stockroom and the shelves. Garibay is helping spread the word to various community partners for donations to the food shelf to help people in need.
