Mission: As a Roman Catholic School, Rice Memo-rial High School exists to guide its students toward the realization of their God-given potential. Rice teaches students to recognize and develop their unique gifts by inspiring them to love learning, to serve others and to seek God through Jesus Christ and his Church.

Rice Memorial High School nominates junior Jillian Getler as our student who exemplifies what it means to be a young disciple in the Church today. Jillian demonstrates a strong moral compass steeped in her faith. She is a leader and someone of great courage and bold thinking. Jillian’s desire to lead in the faith amidst a world that is seemingly at great odds with those who live out their faith is the reason that Rice nominates her as our young disciple.

She and other students worked with the school principal to establish a student committee for leadership role models that will be piloted in September.

A member of Our Lady of the Lake Parish in South Hero/Grand Isle, Jillian enjoys volleyball, indoor and spring track and acting. She works with her mother in her food truck and at the sandwich shop her mother manages. She is an avid reader and has four dogs to care for.

Jillian won the science and Latin awards freshman year and continues to excel.

She hasn’t decided on a career path yet.
