This evening is a part of the Eucharistic Preacher Initiative – a select number of topics on the Eucharist offered by various speakers approved by the Diocese of Burlington. For a list of topics and preachers, please contact the Diocesan Office of Worship.
Presenter: Fr. Michael Carter, SSE
Come learn about how the Mass was celebrated in the earliest centuries through the lens of St. Justin Martyr, who wrote about the Eucharistic celebration in his First Apology, written between 153 and 155 AD. Written for those outside the Church, St. Justin’s writing is a simplified explanation of early Christian practices. You’ll find out a little about how the early Christians celebrated the liturgy, and how the earliest belief in Eucharistic doctrine was expressed in worship. Discover what ancient practices, celebrated in the second century, continue down to this day.
The presentation will be given at the Essex Catholic Community Center at Holy Family Church in Essex Junction. Call 802-878-5331 for more information.
