Dr. Shannen Dee Williams, Associate Professor of History at Dayton University, will deliver a lecture on her research about the involvement of Black Catholic nuns in the Civil Rights Movement. Dr. Williams’ is the author of Subversive Habits: Black Nuns in the Long African American Freedom Struggle is the result of her doctoral dissertation in which she provides the first full history of Black Catholic nuns in the United States, describing these women as the “forgotten prophets of Catholicism and democracy.” The lecture will take place in the Farrell Room of Saint Edmund’s Hall (third floor) at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, VT, at 4:30 p.m. Open to all.
