The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of the offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1601)
In The Catholic Church
We welcome all couples who have made the decision to marry in the Catholic Church and wish them the most enriching and deepening experience of their lives. Because the Church desires that each engaged person grasp the unique and multifaceted nature of marriage made holy in Christ and in order to be able to receive the Sacrament freely with the awareness that it includes the promise of fidelity, indissolubility, and openness to children we make every effort to assist couples as they prepare for this Sacrament. In this diocese it is the Christian community, guided by the priests and the diocesan office of Marriage, Family, and Respect Life Ministries which assists in providing marriage preparation for engaged couples.
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR YOUR MARRIAGE TODAY: Website offered by the US Council of Catholic Bishops, Secretariat of Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth. Covers a multitude of subjects from preparing for marriage to marriage enrichment and dealing with burdens along the way.
NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING (NFP):
Natural Family Planning (NFP) is an effective method for avoiding or achieving pregnancy where there are no harmful drugs are devices involved. A woman becomes simply and naturally in touch with her own fertility by learning to recognize and understand the physical changes in her body. This process fosters commitment in couples to work together in meeting their family goals.
Natural family planning is presented at all Pre Cana programs. Trained NFP teaching couples are available for couples preparing for marriage as well as those already married. These couples are certified through the Couple to Couple League. From time to time there are also parish classes available.
ONE-IN-CHRIST WEEKEND a weekend program with presentations by trained married couples and a Priest that encourages couples to better understand the Christ-centered nature of sacramental marriage.
