Description:
COLCHESTER--Bringing Your Ancestors to Life is the topic of an April 1 workshop. Many of Lillian Robinson's nieces and nephews aren't interested in pedigree charts, but they love the stories that she shares about their ancestors. Online newspapers, local histories, military records and pension files are some of the places she finds stories. Family group pages on Facebook and swapping information have been other ways her family has shared stories. She has also had success with Random Acts Of Genealogical Kindness. Robinson will demonstrate some of the many ways to find and share family stories. Classes at the Vermont Genealogy Library are $5 and run from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The library is located on Hegeman Avenue in Fort Ethan Allen. Parking and the entrance are across from the state police building. For more information, go to vtgenlib.org or call 802-310-9285.

Description:
BENNINGTON— On Tuesday, April 11, at 7 p.m., the parish choir of Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church once again will offer their annual Holy Week Service of Silent Prayer, Song and Adoration of the Cross in the Tradition of Taize. Taize is a village in the hills of Eastern France that is home to an ecumenical monastic order of religious brothers who have dedicated their lives to prayer and works of charity. Founded by Brother Roger Schutz in 1940, the holy men of Taize sheltered and protected those who fled the terror of Nazi occupation. The choir will sing selections by Jacques Berthier (1923-1994), who composed music for the Taize community. The music consists of litany-style refrains, which become increasingly prayerful with each repetition. Throughout the adoration of the cross, Samuel Barber's masterpiece, “Adagio for Strings," will be played at the organ. Additionally, everyone will be invited to submit prayer intentions to be chanted by the cantor. The choir warmly invites everyone to pray, sing, and adore with them on this night of the holiest of weeks. Please invite friends of other faith traditions to come as well. The church is located at 238 West Main St. in Bennington. All facilities are accessible to those with special needs. For more information, call the parish organist and director of music at 802-442-3141, ext. 5.

BARRE--There will be a 100th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima parish mission from Sunday, April 30, through Tuesday, May 2, at St. Monica Parish, 79 Summer St., Barre. The featured speaker will be Father Dan Cambra, director of the Marian evangelization team and a member of the Mother of Mercy Province of the Marians of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Marians of the Immaculate Conception is the religious community entrusted to spread the message and devotion of The Divine Mercy. He will speak at all weekend masses. Presentations will be on Sunday, April 30, at 6:30 p.m.; Monday, May 1, at 9 a.m.; Tuesday, May 2, at 9 a.m. Topics include praying for the conversion of souls, praying for the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary as a prelude to ushering in the era of The Divine Mercy, the interrelationship of the message of Divine Mercy as revealed to St. Faustina and the message of Our Lady of Fatima as revealed to the three shepherd children. There also will be the opportunity to receive a blessing with a relic of St. Faustina. St. John Paul II canonized her in 2000, making her the first saint of the new millennium. Speaking of her and the importance of the message contained in her diary, the pope called her "the great apostle of Divine Mercy in our time." Materials about The Divine Mercy devotion will be available for purchase at the parish mission. For information contact: Teresa Hawes, DRE, at 802-476-4020 or visit thedivinemercy.org/events.
