This hour-long talk will introduce participants to a brief history of Irish immigration to North American and discussion of some of the major resources for Irish genealogy research: online, locally and in Ireland. The Drouin Institute and The University of Montreal have teamed up to bring genealogists invaluable tools for finding French-Canadian ancestors. These databases are easy to use and reveal a wealth of information from birth, marriage and death records. Vital statistics on whole families are linked from one generation to the next. Knowing how to use the databases together, along with some tips, will fill many of the gaps on your family tree. Following the class Jane Whitmore will help attendees with searches in using the Vermont Genealogy Library’s subscriptions to these databases. This video/discussion event is based on the BBC series "Into Great Silence," which examines the introduction of five average people to sacred silence. The experience takes place at a monastery and is based on the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Following the video will be a discussion of such topics as types of sacred silence, introduction to spiritual direction and aids to contemplative prayer.
